Nick and I met my sophomore year, his freshman year of college.  We started dating that October due to his persistence.  At the time I wasn't expecting to find such a close friend or to be wearing such a beautiful ring three years later.

I knew from the first time that he really looked into my eyes that he loved me and that I loved him.  However, he never uttered those three little words.  Nick always wanted our relationship to be special, to have deep meaning, so he wanted to wait until he asked me to marry him to say to me "I love you."  Still he told me every day in the way he treated me with respect and love.

On April 22, Nick came to my apartment with flowers (not a common occurrence, but it did happen from time to time).  We sat down on the couch and were talking about nothing important.  I could see in his eyes that there was something more that he wanted to say.  Then he looked at me and with a quivering voice said, "Vanessa, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.  Will you marry me?"
