Guide to Simple Updating

Before retrieving your website, I recommend you create a folder on your computer to hold all the files.  It should be easy to get to.  "c:\website local" is one possibility.  That means go to my computer, click on the c: drive, and right click--new--folder.  Fianlly type "website local."  This is where you will make changes and then uplaod them to your server.

1.  Download an FTP program. WSFTP is the one I use because its free.  FTP stands for file transfer protocol. Its a program that transfers files from your computer to your server or vice versa.
2.  Install the FTP program.
3.  Downlaod your website with the FTP program.
    A. Open the FTP program.
    B. Fill in the following information.
    C. Click OK.

4. The FTP program will coneect to your server.  You will get a screen like this.

5.  Navigate the left column to "c:\website local" folder that you just created.

6.  Slect all files in the right hand column.  Click the first one, hold shift, and click the last file in the list.

7.  Click the button pointing to the left.  This will copy the files to your hard drive.  The files stay where they are unitl you use the delete command on the right.

8.  Now open Netscape Composer.
9.  Open any file ending in ".htm"
10. Make your changes and save.
11. Return to the FTP program.
12. Select the files that you made changes to and click the button pointing to the right.  This uploads the files back to the server and replaces the files of the same name.  So it erases the old file and puts the new one in its place.
