Ft. Worth mourns slain children in citywide memorial service September 20. The 15,000 mourners drew comfort from the service at Texas Christian University.
Larry Ashbrook, 47 the accused shooter, followed the students from a prayer meeting in front of their school to their youth rally at Wedgewood Baptist Church.
He kicked the rear door of the sanctuary open, killed seven and wounded
seven more before he took his own life.
Among the speakers, two students from Columbine High School offered
their prayers and support.
"We understand the loss you are going through," Craig Nason said. "We
came here not with answers, but with hopes and prayers."
Columbine High School endured a shooting tragedy last April.
Pastor Al Meredith held the Christians responsible, chastised them for lack of dedication and called for a day of prayer and fasting. He led attendants, including Governor Bush, in a chorus with arms raised.
Stephen Curtis Chapman closed the service with a song he had written for his youth group torn by a similar incident in Paducah, Kentucky.
